Description: In this group are 3 historic handmade Navajo Rattles belonging to one well-known family. These were made by and belonged to the famous artist, Robert Yellowhair, his father, Peter (Pete) Yellowhair and Robert's grandfather, Chief Hosteen Nez. Peter Yellowhair was known as the last of the old traditional medicine men and Chief Hosteen Nez was a man of note who is mentioned in old books and historical documents. These men were the father and grandfather of Robert Yellowhair. This unique trio of rattles, belonging to son, father and grandfather, all of whom were notable individuals from the Navajo Nation, was brought to us directly by Robert Yellowhair himself a few years before he passed away. These items come with a written story of how they came to us and a brief history as told to us by Robert when he sold the items to us. They have been in our personal collection and on display since acquiring them. These are handmade rawhide rattles with buffalo hair tassels on them. They are fresh to the market and come exactly as pictured and in the display box shown.

Makers: Robert Yellowhair, Peter Yellowhair and Chief Hosteen Nez.

Approx Age: Robert told us his grandfather's rattle would have been made in the late 1800s, his fathers in the early 1900s and his circa the 1950s.

Size: Each rattle is approximately 10 inches long.

Condition: Pretty good for their ages. Normal wear and minor imperfections expected and the oldest one is a little fragile and should be handled with care.
Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description.
