Available here for your consideration are a pair of Billy Klapper's personal spurs that were bought right off his own boots at a roping event in San Angelo, TX! Billy Ray Klapper (1937-2024) was a world-famous bit and spur maker who produced bits and spurs sought after by the ranching community and collectors alike. Among his accolades are creating spurs for many well known people - including a pair for King Charles III.
This particular pair of spurs is numbered 509 and double mounted with ten point rowels. They have a steer head design on one side and a floral pattern on the other. This set of Klapper spurs comes with two letters attesting to the story of how Klapper was convinced to sell them right off his own boots! One letter is from Klapper himself and the other is from hall of fame saddle maker, Bob Scott (who purchased the spurs originally). Make these historic spurs yours today! 
PROVENANCE: Sold to seller right off the boots of Billy Klapper at a roping in San Angelo, TX in 1994. Two letters accompany this lot in verification of this fact.
MAKER: Hallmarked KLAPPER 509 on the heel band. Billy Ray Klapper (1939-2024). Klapper started off as a ranch hand in TX. He took up bit and spur making in 1966, learning the craft from Adolp Bayers. By the late 1960s his work was in such high demand, he became a full-time bit and spur maker. During his career, Klapper developed 682 spur patterns and 816 bit patterns (per Wikipedia).
APPROX AGE: Circa 1991.
SIZE: The heel openings measure 3 1/4 inches, the band width measures 3/4 inch and the shanks measure 1 7/8 inches long overall.
