DESCRIPTION: Presented for sale here is a very collectible and classic Hopi overlay belt buckle by the well-known silversmith, Victor Coochwytewa. This beautiful buckle features a bear as the focal point along with other traditional Hopi designs. It is very crisp and well made. It is marked as being sterling silver.
MAKER: Hallmarked VC along with Victor's well-known rain cloud hallmark. The artist Victor Coochwytewa (1922-2011; Hopi) was active beginning sometime in the 1940s. He is a multiple award winning artist and in 1994 was declared a Arizona Indian Living Treasure. He started out as one of the famous Hopi GI bill class graduates from 1949-1951.
APPROX AGE: Circa 1970s - 1980s.
SIZE: 2-5/8 inches wide X 1-3/4 inches tall. Fits a 1 inch belt. Weighs 52.7 grams.
