Available here for your consideration is a Juan Estrada, Winnemucca, NV marked spade bit. This iron bit features intricate engraved silver inlay on the cheeks accented with domed silver buttons. The mouth piece is a spade design, with copper wrapped braces and cricket. The bit also has rein chains. Estrada was well known for California - Vaquero style bits with silver inlay designs. The history of bits and spurs in North America begins with the Spanish who first came to the new world in the 1500s, bringing horses and livestock with them. The Spanish colonial style is the predecessor of the Californian and Mexican styles we know today and this one is a fine example of that heritage.
