Description: This is a great, handmade belt buckle with six natural turquoise stones. It is made of either sterling or coin silver and was tested as such. This buckle has been seen by several Zuni "experts" and some say the stamped "drops" and handmade bezels lean towards being attributed to Dan Simplicio (that was also written on the back when we got it in). However, others have attributed the work to the Iule family. Like the old saying goes, ask 10 different experts, you will get several different opinions. Anyway, it has definitely been attributed as having been made by one of the old Zuni master silversmiths and is a great little buckle, no matter who made it.
Maker: Unsigned, as was common of most Native jewelry from this era, but possibly attributed to Dan Simplicio (1917-1969, Zuni) or one of the other Zuni silversmiths that were working about that same time.
Approx. Age: Circa mid-century.
Size: Measures 3" w x 1 1/2"h. Fits about a 1 1/8" belt. Weighs 39.8g.
Condition: Good for its age. Normal wear and minor imperfections expected on used and vintage items.
Please look closely at the pictures as are an important part of our description.
