Offered here for your consideration is No Time to Dally, a bronze by Ken Payne. This sculpture depicts a cowboy on horseback in the act of wrangling a bull elk. The cowboy's lariat has encircled the elk's antlers and the elk has decided to threaten the cowboy's mount which is rearing and twisting violently in its effort to escape. This large sculpture captures the action clearly and in great detail, including the look on the cowpoke's face as he wonders if this idea was a mistake. MAKER: MAKER: Ken Payne. (1938-2012). Ken Payne was raised on a large ranch in New Mexico. His cowboy life in the Southwest inspired his choice to use Native Americans, pioneers, cowboys, and wildlife as the subjects of his sculptures in order to preserve and convey a sense of frontier life. Ken Payne's influence on the art of sculpture is out-sized due not only to the skill he demonstrated in his work but also through his influence in his PBS show "Sculpting with Ken Payne".
APPROX AGE: Fairly Modern (meaning 1980s or newer). 
SIZE: 23 inches wide x 26 inches high x 18 inches deep.
