Available here for your consideration is a rare second phase Navajo chiefs blanket. This second phase Chief's blanket was made as a wearing blanket, not a rug, and it features the traditional striped designs which are accented with rectangular blocks. The colors are an off-white background with dark brown stripes with indigo blue and red accents (there was a dye test done by the well-known expert, David Wenger, and he found both cochineal and synthetic dye present, SEE PHOTOS). The synthetic red has faded a bit with age, while the other colors remain stronger. The cochineal red is put in almost like a signature or code or marker of some kind, which adds to the interesting nature of this historic piece. Check the photos for visual details. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of history, add this second phase Navajo chiefs blanket to your collection!
