MAKER: Ken Payne. (1938-2012). Ken Payne was raised on a large ranch in New Mexico. His cowboy life in the Southwest inspired his choice to use Native Americans, pioneers, cowboys, and wildlife as the subjects of his sculptures in order to preserve and convey a sense of frontier life. Ken Payne's influence on the art of sculpture is out-sized due not only to the skill he demonstrated in his work but also through his influence in his PBS show "Sculpting with Ken Payne".
