Available here for your consideration is an antique spade bit attributed Juan Jose Estrada. This iron bit has intricately engraved silver inlay on the cheeks and shanks, accented with domed silver buttons. The spade is complemented by copper-wrapped braces and a cricket. The bit also comes with rein chains. Estrada was well known for doing California - Vaquero style bits with silver inlay designs. This work is aged and very much shows Estrada's style of engraving and design. The history of bits and spurs in North America begins with the Spanish who first came to the new world in the 1500s, bringing horses and livestock with them. The Spanish style is the predecessor of the Californian and Mexican styles we know today and this is a fine example of that heritage.
