DESCRIPTION: For your consideration a great old San Jose style, "kissing birds" spade bit. The engraving strongly suggest it was made by the one of the Hernandez. Research suggests there were 5 Hernandez who made bits and spurs which were sold through various retailers such as Visalia, Main and Winchester, F.M. Stern and L.D. Stone. They were rarely marked. This is a great old California spade bit for your collection.
MAKER: Unmarked, but attributed to Hernandez.
APPROX AGE: Circa late 1800s to early 1900s.
SIZE: It has a 5" mouth piece. It is 7" long overall.
