Offered here for your consideration is an antique Plains rawhide or parfleche bridle with a ring bit and barba attachment. The "leather" on the headstall is actually rawhide or parfleche and it is highlighted with painted patterns done in colors of red, blue and yellow. It has a real traditional Plains Native American look to it. The headstall is further accented with several conchos and a buckle. The Spanish style ring bit features a "barba" or chain mail attachment below with copper cross dangles. This is an attractive headstall and bit for display.
MAKER: Various. The bit is most likely Spanish or Mexican made while the headstall itself appears to be Plains.
APPROX AGE: Antique for the most part, although the "barba" on the bit appears to be a later addition.
SIZE: The bit measures approximately 5 inches wide at the mouth and 8 inches long on the cheeks. The bridle appears to be a standard horse size.
CONDITION: Pretty good for its age with wear and imperfections expected. Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description and are hereby incorporated into the description, specifically with regards to condition.
