Offered here for your consideration is a bronze titled, Buffalo Who Walks Standing Upright, by Ken Payne. This impressive bust, by an important sculptor of the old west, depicts a Native American in buffalo horn headdress embellished with a beaded band across his forehead and dangling eagle feathers. The garment covering his shoulders and chest is nicely decorated with figures and symbols. The bust is an exemplar of the sculptor's care and attention to detail which reaches its height in his subject's face, a face evincing a stoic resignation coupled with a stubborn determination to survive in a changing world, much like the buffalo for which he is named. Very nice bronze that would look great in your home or office. Numbered 9/30.
Ken Payne was raised on a large ranch in New Mexico. His cowboy life in the Southwest inspired his choice to use Native Americans, pioneers, cowboys and wildlife as the subjects of his sculptures in order to convey a sense of frontier life.
