Antique Western Apache/Yavapai Figural Basket

Offered here for your consideration is an antique Western Apache/Yavapai figural Basket. This shallow style tray is a coiled basket featuring a brown center circular design that forms a multi petaled star or blossom. The outer petals are adorned with stylized deer motifs and the the outer rim is decorated with arrow and geometric patterns aimed towards the center. This piece is finished with a dark brown woven rim. The Apache people were known as superior basket makers after learning new techniques from the Yavapai during the late 1800s, which they quickly adopted and adapted. Apache baskets are striking with strong contrast in color and bold geometric or pictorial (less common) motifs. They are on a three rod foundation with wraps of willow and Devil's Claw (for contrast). These baskets are highly sought after and getting harder to find. this would look great in any high end basket collection.

APPROX AGE: Antique. 
SIZE: This basket measures 20 3/4 inches across x 4 inches deep.
